When writing SEO content for their website, people tend to make some glaring errors, which could impact their search engine rankings and send a lot of readers to another website to find what they want. Web searchers don’t usually spend a lot of time before making the choice to either continue reading or to move on to another site with a click of the mouse. That’s why it’s important that you understand your readers, and conform to their wishes, if you want to keep your website relevant and viewed.
Here are a few things to avoid, when writing your SEO friendly content:
• Long paragraphs are the bane of website content. A reader will look at a huge block of text, and feel daunted about reading it all. Keep your paragraphs short, to the point and relevant.
• Use numbers or bullets whenever possible. Readers like to just be able to scan a page in point form, and pick and choose which parts to read. Make this simpler for them, and you’ll see your site traffic increase.
• Give links in your articles to dependable sites, especially when using them to quote facts. Using biased sites to back up what you say in your own article, or using sites that seem like spam is a bad way to write an article and keep readers coming back for more.
• Keep your articles short. Just like readers don’t like huge blocks of text, they also don’t want to read a novel on your site. They will probably scroll down the page, see that your article is 10-pages long and skip off to the next site.
• Keep the reader in mind when writing your articles. Some people lose sight of the fact that their content is for humans as well as search engines. It’s always better to write for people than it is for a machine. After all, it’s people who buy your merchandise and read your content. Making your articles SEO friendly is fine, but try to do it seamlessly, so your articles are enjoyable to read.
• Proofread your articles. Before publishing your new content, read it out loud. Many times, you can find errors this way that you may have missed when reading it in your head. By having articles on your website that are gibberish, with glaring grammar and spelling issues, you lose credibility with your reader.
• Titles are important. You want them to grab the reader’s attention enough that they want to read your article. It’s also important that you use your keyword in the article title.
• Be friendly when you write. An important aspect of any type of writing is to understand the reader. Pretend you’re writing an email or letter to your friend if you have to, but the important thing is to keep your writing less rigid and more relaxed. You’ll be surprised at how many more people will enjoy your articles, once you’ve mastered this trick.
Now for the last trick: have an ending. Sum up what your article was about and give your reader closure! Now that you’re armed with all of this SEO knowledge, you’re sure to write some great content for your website. Have fun and good luck!
