How To Use SEO To Optimize Your Website

With over eight billion websites and growing daily, the Internet has become the new global marketplace, news source, opinion-generating machine and information center of the 21st century. Yet many people still don’t know how to use the Internet to their best advantage, making getting noticed amongst all of those websites, the real challenge.

Search engine optimization (SEO for short) is crucial if you want to have your website noticed. Basically, optimizing your website requires using key words or phrases, which search engines use in order to match your site with search requests.

There are two things you absolutely must do, if you want to use SEO to optimize your website:

    1. Find out what people search for when looking at sites that are comparable to your own. For instance, if you own a fitness website, try to think like someone who wants to lose weight. What would you type into a search engine, if you wanted to drop a few pounds? Perhaps you might search for specific regions of your body, such as your stomach or thighs? Now use these words in your text at least 1%-2% of the time, in order to attract attention from the search engines.

    2. Do not overdo your website with SEO garbage. Some people overload their script with keywords, making the text nearly unreadable. This has two effects. One, you bore and drive away the readers you want to attract. And two, you take a risk of being banned by search engines all together, because you’re being unethical and trying to trick the search engines into listing your site higher in their rankings. It’s far better to sprinkle your text with keywords, while still providing the information the reader is looking for, while still maintaining your keyword usage.

Many website owners expect to be in the top of the search engine rankings, just because they’ve used SEO to optimize their website. Frankly, this is ridiculous. There is far more that goes into ranking websites, than SEO alone. However, SEO is a major tool in the Internet world, and it can go a long way towards getting your website noticed by search engines.

Once you’ve filled your website with keyword rich text, you can look at optimizing your website using SEO in a number of other ways. Adding keywords into your HTML script, as well as adding keyword rich META tags are a few other ways that you can help the search engines find your website. There are no hard and fast rules to how many keywords are needed in order to best optimize your site. However, anywhere from 1%-4% is generally regarded as the acceptable norm.

Optimizing your website using SEO techniques is not difficult. However, if you’re feeling a little squeamish about doing it yourself, there are thousands of writers and computer programmers that specialize in using SEO to get your site noticed. Once you’ve mastered the technique or hired someone to master it for you, watch as your website grows!
