Properly using SEO to optimize your site can be a frustrating, time-consuming process. However, if you want your site or business to take flight, learning the SEO ropes is essential to your success. One technique that is often overlooked is directory articles. Most people focus on building their site, optimizing it using keywords, META tags and links, but they don’t realize the potential that directory articles can bring to the table.

In a way, directory articles are used as a way to get links from other sites. Have you ever typed in a search, and had the same article pop up but on numerous sites? If so, you’ve run into a directory article.

Directory articles are used as a way for site owners of all stripes to establish themselves as an expert in their field. For instance, if you ran an alternative medicine web site, you might want to consider writing a bunch of directory articles on alternative medicines. Each article would then bear your name, a brief bio and most importantly, a link to your site.

There are a number of well-known article directories, such as:

• Goarticles.com
• Ezinearticles.com
• ArticleDashboard.com

Once you’ve successfully written an article, you can submit it to one of these directories (or the hundreds of others that exist) and other site owners can pick them up and display them on their websites for free. At first glance, it may seem like you’ve written an article for free, and that other site owners are going to benefit from your work more than you. But this isn’t true. You may not receive any direct money for your article, but the site traffic it can generate could turn into a lot of money in your pocket.

Searchers on the Internet will find your articles, remember your name and perhaps use the link provided on the directory article to find your site directly. Now that’s marketing!

Not only that, but each time your directory article is used, it counts as a direct link to your site, which in turn will boost your traffic and search engine ranking. You can even use the same material you used in the first directory article (the same research, not wording) and write multiple directory articles on the same subject. Just change the phrasing, insert a new beginning and ending to the article, and you’ve got yourself a brand new article, ready to be submitted to an article directory.

When writing an article for a directory, you should try and make sure that it’s keyword friendly. This will enhance the chances that your article will be picked up for use on other websites. Remember, other site owners are trying to optimize their websites, and making your articles SEO friendly, can benefit both of you immensely.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and write yourself a directory article, and watch as your site traffic increases!

There are thousands of articles, books and forum posts which showed that content is king in search engine optimization (SEO). In this article, you can find some ways that can help you improve this king content for your web site.

* Content for people first, not for search engines - Some webmasters make a common mistake that they optimize everything for search engines but forget about web visitors. The goal of our website is not only to get high search rankings, but also to sell our service. So you should give your web visitors what they are really looking for. Make sure your content flows naturally and you’re not just trying to stuff more keywords in the interest of search engines. If users don’t find your content convincing they won’t buy from you.

* Studying popular search terms - High search engine ranking is meaningless if your website only ranks high on terms nobody searches for. You need to ask your colleagues, vendors, competitors, clients, … or use online tools (e.g.: wordtracker.com) to identify what keywords which potential customers would use to search your web site, then try to use them often, in titles, and throughout the body.

* Building article directory - How can you optimize the content if your web site only offers a simple service? It means there are just several pages in your whole website. So, to increase the content in quality you should write some articles, reviews which are related to your service. A site with more web pages means there are more chances of different terms that will become findable in search engines. You may consider adding free articles to your article directory. On the Internet today, one can find a lot of websites which provide articles free for republishing. Of course you must accept the policy of these web sites and authors before using these articles.

* Making a clear website organization - Build a site which is simple to navigate with a well linking structure. Every page should be accessible from at least one text link. It’s better to be sparing with image links, Flash, JavaScript drop-down menus, or other codes that are not HTML based… because the search engine crawlers cannot recognize text contained in these kinds of display. In case using them is required, then make sure a text based menu or a sitemap is also included in the Web site. Last but not least, you should use meaningful words in your URLs, use as simple a web page layout and design as possible.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that content is king in the kingdom of search engines. The quality of your content is the main factor which decides the success in Internet marketing. So improving your content is very necessary.

f it was only one then Google could hold that against you.

Why?

Because the majority of Spam websites only register a domain name for one year. A domain name registered for a longer period implies that the owner is more likely to be legitimate and serious about their web site.

This is just one of the unusual factors possibly considered by Google when indexing and ranking a website. Factors you could never even have guessed at in some cases. How do I know this?

Google have recently made public, March 31 2005, the contents of their filing of United States Patent Application 20050071741.

In which many of the search giants secret ranking criteria is revealed and it makes very interesting reading. You must read this if you are serious about ranking well in Google. The days of Spaming Google are drawing to a close. With this patent they reveal just how hard they’re coming down on Spam sites. You Do Not want to get caught out.

Listed below you will find the hard facts, I recommend you bookmark this page now. You will need to reference it each time you optimize a new site.

• Links.

It’s common knowledge that Google relies heavily on inbound relevant links to rank a site. Now they explain exactly how it works.

As well as the number, quality and anchor text factors of a link. Google seems to also consider historical factors. Apparently the Google ’sandbox’ or aging delay begins count down the minute links to a new site are discovered.

Google record the discovery of a link, link changes over time, the speed at which a site gains links and the link life span.

With this in mind fast link acquisition may be a strong indicator of potential search engine Spam.

Gone are the days of pages and pages full of links. You must grow your links slowly to stay below the radar and be careful who you exchange links with. That means no more buying hundreds of links at once or other underhand tactics.

PR is now very valuable.

Your link anchor text should vary but remain consistent with your site content. No more using your main keywords on every link exchange you gain. That’s ‘anchor Spam’. Instead vary them around your top five to ten keywords.

Link exchanges are still very important but you must work and utilize them ethically. If you don’t and you get caught the recovery from a ban can be months in coming and your host and IP may also be recorded.

Softly softly seems to be the message. The fact is fewer but better quality links will benefit you more anyway and they will be much more likely to long-term which is good to.

• Site click through rates (CTR)

CTR may now be monitored through cache, temporary files, bookmarks and favorites via the Google toolbar or desktop tools. Many have suspected for some time that sites are reward for good CTR with a raise in ranking. Similar to how Adwords works.

CTR is monitored to see if fresh or stale content is preferred for a search result.

CTR is also analyzed for increases or decreases relating to trends or seasons.

• Web page rankings are recorded and monitored for changes.

• The traffic to a web page is recorded and monitored over time.

• Sites can be ranked seasonally. A ski site may rank higher in the winter than in the summer. Google can monitor and rank pages by recording CTR changes by season.

• Bookmarks and favorites could be monitored for changes, deletions or additions.

• User behavior in general could be monitored.

As Google is capable of tracking traffic to your site you should closely monitor the small amount of copy returned in search results. Ideally you want to integrate a call to action in there to increase your listings CTR.

Clicks away from your site back to the search results are also monitored. Make your site as sticky as possible to keep visitors there longer. As mentioned above it may also help if you could get your visitors to bookmark you.

• The frequency and amount of page updates is monitored and recorded as is the number of pages.

Mass updates of hundreds of files will see you pop up on the radar.

On the other hand few or small updates to your site could see your rankings slide. Unless your CTR is good. A stale page that receives good traffic may hold it’s own and not require an update. So don’t update for the sake of it.

Depending on your market fresh content may not be a requirement. If the information your pages contain does not go out of date then updating may not be necessary. If your market is more news based for example then changes regularly are a must. In general changes don’t necessarily have to mean fresh content. They could involve simple edits to current content.

A further indicator that Google is really cracking down on Spam is made clear in the following extract from the Patent. Mention is made of changing the focus of multiple pages at once.

Here’s the quote -
“A significant change over time in the set of topics associated with a document may indicate that the document has changed owners and previous document indicators, such as score, anchor text, etc., are no longer reliable.

Similarly, a spike in the number of topics could indicate Spam. For example, if a particular document is associated with a set of one or more topics over what may be considered a ’stable’ period of time and then a (sudden) spike occurs in the number of topics associated with the document, this may be an indication that the document has been taken over as a ‘doorway’ document.

Another indication may include the sudden disappearance of the original topics associated with the document. If one or more of these situations are detected, then [Google] may reduce the relative score of such documents and/or the links, anchor text, or other data associated the document.”

There’s still more to look out for:-

• Changes in on page keyword density is monitored and recorded as are changes to anchor text.

• The domain name owner address is considered, most likely to help in a local search result.

• The technical and admin contact details are checked for consistency. These are often falsified for Spam domains.

• Your hosts IP address. If you are on a shared server it’s possible somebody else on that server is using dirty tactics or Spaming. If so your site will suffer since you share the same IP.

The impression I get here is that Google have learned from the Spam ‘attack’ they suffered in early 2004 and they are determined to eradicate it from their listing results.

So what do you do?

There’s a lot to take onboard here and consider. But you can’t go far wrong with your SEO if you try to grow your site as organically as possible.

If you know what you are doing you can take short cuts. Carry on with link exchanges but consider each site carefully and slow down in your gathering of them. Vary your anchor text. Add small amounts of good quality content to your site regularly. Check your search engine listings and edit your site to include a call to action in them if possible. Make your site more ’sticky’ to encourage visitors to stay a while. Encourage visitors to Bookmark your site. Oh and register new domain names for at least two years.

Before you do anything remember to reference the above info first. It may just save you months of misery as your site gets banned and ‘Sand boxed’.

Overall keep it ethical and you can’t go far wrong.
Do not be tempted to Spam. Stick to the guidelines above and you are much more likely to outlast and out rank your competition.

If you are considering launching a website for your business or entering the lucrative world of e-commerce by starting an online business, there are a few things you need to keep in mind in order to assure your web site’s success. Without taking the time to understand how the Internet and search engines work you will certainly guarantee that no one will see your site. The Internet is a whole new ball game when it comes to marketing. Invest a few minutes in making your website a success by browsing through the tips listed in the Internet marketing guide below. Simply launching a web site and hoping the search engines will pick it up or that someone will stumble upon it isn’t a very effective strategy. The first Internet marketing guide step you need to employ involves your domain name. The domain name you select needs to be easy to spell, visually attractive and relative to your business. It can be very tempting to come up with a name that either includes a version of your own name or a cutesy or unique domain name (example: www.bobsuseddvds.com or www.gourmetkoffee.com) however the sad reality is that this type of combination is not very efficient for several reasons.

First, it can be a little difficult for the average surfer to remember, particularly if your name is a common name. Secondly, as in the example listed, you end up with too many of the same letters of the alphabet. This example has far too many of the letters S and D. Finally, you need to select a name that will stand out visually and that is easy to remember and spell. While the term ‘gourmet coffee’ relates to a specific business and is easy enough to remember, the unusual spelling of coffee could result in the opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish. If the domain name you would like for your business has already been registered by someone else, consider using a different extension. Not every domain name needs to end in .com. There are other extensions available. Also think about re-arranging words or adding words to make the name unique and still easy to remember and spell. For example, while the domain name gourmetcoffee.com might already be taken; chances are www.gourmetcoffeeforyou.com probably isn’t.

You also need to give some serious consideration to how you are going to reel your customers into your site. Most Internet consumers do not surf to initially make a purchase. A large majority of your potential customers are looking for information. You need to be able to provide them with the information they want, for free, and then persuade them to purchase your product. Simple loading images of your products and listing prices won’t make very many sales. There are several Internet marketing guide techniques you can use to lure customers to your site.

Provide articles that relate to your subject. If you sell a variety of vitamin and mineral supplements, you could offer articles with information on the various benefits and uses of each type of supplement you sell. Make sure the articles contain a healthy quantity of the words someone would type into a search engine to look for information on that supplement and you’ve taken your first step toward search engine optimization. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Remember, the steps of an effective internet marketing guide is really composed of nothing more than thinking like the average consumer.

—————————————————————————–

Okay, you’ve got your website up and running; you’ve crammed it with all kinds of interesting content; you’ve researched your keywords and you know who your target audience is. The next question is: Do you know who your competition is? Understanding your competition, what they do and what they don’t do; is a critical Internet marketing secret that can easily help you win or lose the race in attracting attention to your site. With new websites popping up almost every minute, and many of them aiming to take away some of the traffic you’ve worked so hard to drive to your site, it is imperative that you take advantage of this Internet marketing secret. Researching your competition is a task that must be constantly ongoing. If you don’t know what other websites are doing, there is no way you are going to know how your site stacks up in comparison.

This is not to say that you need to run out and include every tool that you see other sites are using, but it might help you to understand which of your tools are working and which ones could be replaced with something more useful. Web surfers have an extremely short attention span. They want to see content that is constantly updated and reflects the changes that are going on in the world and in their lives. Lose their attention, especially in favor for something that offers more updated info or better benefits and you’re one step away from becoming a dead link.

It’s quite possible that one of the tools you’re utilizing, however popular it might have been at first, has become over time less trendy. Suppose you placed a wealth of informational content on your website when you first began, and that content was well received and instrumental in driving traffic to your site. Lately, however; you’ve noticed that your traffic has dropped slightly. You’re still doing business, but it seems there’s been a decrease and you’re not sure why. The Internet marketing secret of understanding your competition can help you figure out where your traffic is going. It could be that visitors have read all your content and are looking for something that’s more recent and updated. Quite frankly, they may be tired of seeing the same old thing. So, what do you replace it with? A tip of the day? Maybe a free giveaway? Check out what your competition is doing and you’ll find out.

—————————————————————————–

As many webmasters and regular web-surfers would know, an online forum community is a great place to meet large groups of people online. Forums provide a means through which visitors to a website can interact with one another and exchange ideas or reviews of products or just talk about anything under the sun. Acute marketers and webmasters will already know that these communities are often excellent places for free advertising.

Word-of-mouth advertising can be used to refer to advertising by which people pass on the marketing message through communication between people. A forum community provides just the setting for word-of-mouth advertising to spread due to its nature of discussion and community structure. Any one member who joins the community is entitled to post his/her thoughts by creating new forum threads or to reply to others or counter someone else’s arguments. Every post that is made is an opportunity to spread some word-of-mouth advertising. This is often done through forum profiles and signatures. A signature is a small description of the member. Most forum communities have no qualms about members posting some self-advertising messages in their signatures, as long as the advert is not too obtrusive. Therefore, forum members can make use of their signatures to post links to their websites or links to products that they are selling. By participating actively in forum communities, one can easily reach a large audience. Because everyone on the forum who participates in the discussion is reading the posts of all members in the discussion as well as signatures, an attractive link will arouse their interests and incite them to click on the link to go to your advertised site. Imagine the impact that this would have in a forum community with thousands of members and your signature appearing in thousands of posts. The boundaries in this form of word-of-mouth advertising is limitless as it largely depends on how much you post and participate in the discussions. The more you participate engagingly, the more times your links appear and the more chances people get to see and interest them to view your site.

Of course, care must be taken to ensure that you are following the proper etiquette as specified by the forum community and that you do not spam the forums. Spamming happens when someone joins in every discussion and posts useless comments that are not constructive. Spammers are often penalized by being banned from the forum for spamming their links in the forum.

When you purchase visitors or “clicks” from a search engine, this is called “pay-per-click” (PPC) search engine advertising (or PPCSE). Pay-Per-Click Search Engine Advertising allows you to quickly get top search engine placement by “bidding” (paying) for keywords related to your product or service.“Organic” or “Natural” search engine optimization (SEO) is accomplished by optimizing your web pages and by increasing your “link popularity” by acquiring links pointing to your web site. These “in-bound” links are critical for achieving high rankings at the Search Engines for your chosen search terms.

In this article, we will explore the strengths and weaknesses of both methods of search engine marketing. Plus, I’ll show you the best resources and tools for improving your search engine rankings for long term success…

“Natural” Search Engine Optimization

Today, there is a big myth that natural search engine optimization is inexpensive and easy. For example, if you wanted your web site to rank high for the keyword phrase “life insurance” or “debt consolidation” you’re going to need to budget a minimum of $50,000-100,000 a year!

Yet still, natural search engine optimization usually gives you a much higher return on investment than pay per click. This is true for two main reasons:

1. More searchers click the natural search engine results versus the pay per click ads, so you’ll get much more traffic for less.

2. One of the biggest factors to improving your rankings with natural search engine optimization is by boosting your “Link Popularity” by acquiring or paying for links that point to your web site. These links give you lasting results by giving you top rankings and traffic from the search engines. Plus, the links themselves will provide a significant boost in long term traffic.

With that said, the biggest weakness of natural search engine optimization is the time required to generate links and “tweak” your web pages and keywords to get those prized high rankings you so desire. For the more competitive keywords, it can literally take 3 months or more to start realizing the benefits of your search engine optimization campaign. For less competitive keywords, you can see the benefits in just a couple weeks.

Pay Per Click Search Engine Advertising

The biggest benefit of pay per click is the fact that it will provide you with an immediate boost of qualified visitors, lead and sales giving you fast results within just hours or days. In fact, a pay per click advertising program is your best option if you seek fast results and a good return on investment while you are waiting for your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) program to “ramp up.”

Depending on your traffic goals, you can budget $100 or $100,000. PPCSEs also give you the added benefits of being able to quickly test your web site and track your conversion rates (leads, opt-ins, and sales) and turning keywords (visitors) on and off easily.

So, as a short term strategy pay per click gives you the clear advantage over SEO. But, the disadvantage is the cost involved. Depending on the market demand for your keywords and clicks, your PPCSE campaign can generate tons of traffic and can cost hundreds, even thousands per day or month. With various optimization strategies you can lower your costs, but over the long term natural search engine optimization will give you a higher return on your marketing dollar.

In Conclusion

The golden rule in marketing is that you should constantly strive for maximum results and return-on-investment (ROI) for your budget. In other words, if your marketing is making you a profit - even if it’s a thin profit - it’s worth it. By this model, pay per click is worth doing, but overall pay per click will leave you with thinner margins.

The reason for conducting a natural search engine optimization campaign is to significantly increase your margins over the long term.

With summer vacations over and schools back in session, marketing plan “season” is fast approaching. This is a time when you reflect on the effectiveness of your business marketing programs. You will be planning to improve performance of some marketing programs, discontinue some, and try others for the first time.

Each Marketing Plan is Unique

For those writing a marketing plan for the first time, it is important to know that there is no “magic formula” to an effective marketing plan. Formats and procedures vary widely, and your marketing plan will be one-of-a-kind.

Your company, customers, competitors, and suppliers interact to create a unique and ever-changing business environment. Because of this, your marketing plan should also be unique and frequently changing. What worked wonderfully for one company may be a dismal failure for you. What worked yesterday for you may not be the thing for you to do today. By thinking of your plan as a unique and perpetual work in progress, you can be better prepared to change direction when the business environment changes.

A Plan Makes a Profitable Difference

Ultimately, your marketing plan is a compass by which you navigate your day-to-day business. As opportunities arise or your business environment changes, the objective and strategies in your marketing plan will point you toward the best action. Without a marketing plan, you are guessing what might be best for your business. And don’t forget to address your Web site in the marketing plan. Without a marketing plan your Web site may be a drain on your finances rather than a business builder.

Also, understand you do not need a marketing degree and a lot of experience to update or create a marketing plan for your business. Once you have a structure to follow, the rest is a matter of rolling up your sleeves and getting it done. There is no single approach to developing a marketing plan. There is a wide selection of books, toolkits, and software to help you through the planning process. Some approaches require a great deal of time and others are “quick and dirty.” All can be applied to your business as a whole, an individual product, or your Web site.

So, in all the hustle and bustle of everyday business activities, don’t forget to take the time to update an existing marketing plan or write a new one. Your future profits depend on it!

Here’s a business marketing tip to gain maximum profit from any product or service in your business marketing lineup, and how you will gain extreme profits when you follow these 5 simple, LAZY steps;

1. Look not at what you are offering through your business marketing efforts - look at WHO WILL BUY your product/service. Make a picture of your ‘typical buyer’ - who they are, their age, what they like to do, etc.

This is often known as the ‘target market prospect’, yet, the more detailed you define this ‘target’ in your business marketing, the better.

I’ve even gone to the point of giving this ‘target market’ person a name and put a picture up on my computer monitor (find a ‘friendly face’ on the Internet somewhere and ‘tag’ it as your target market prospect) - get your business marketing centered around every aspect of your target - the more you know them, the easier it is to chat about what they need.

2. Develop a list of your target market prospect’s likes and dislikes as it would relate to a product/service similar to yours. (You’ll get a ‘third party’ look at your competition, as well as some inside looks at their business marketing efforts.)

Consider some questions they would have, or some typical objections to buying this similar product/service (this may come from your previous research, or you may have to simply do some).

One way to personalize the business marketing research of your ‘target market prospect’ is to ‘role play’ - think about your prospect as a good friend that you are having a picnic with (or even a co-worker at the water cooler, etc.) and in passing, your friend brings up that ’similar’ product/service.

What do they say about it?

What are their questions/concerns?

Is there a ‘running joke’ about the competition’s product/service that defines a hole in their business marketing? (i.e., “Did you hear about the lady that used X?”)

All these things need to be addressed, and documented.

Let your mind be creative and wander, but keep it to a time limit - about 15-20 minutes per business marketing ‘play’ session. Think of nothing but this ‘conversation’ during this creative (often fun) time.

It might even be helpful for you to say everything that comes to mind out loud during these business marketing planning sessions(as silly as that sounds, it works…) and record it, as some of the best business marketing ideas get overlooked when you are trying to write them down quickly.

Listening back for those ‘nuggets’ might even trigger other ‘bits of business marketing gold’ for you to work with.

3. Figure out how your product/service and business marketing plan is similar, yet different than the competition. Just how does your solution overcome all the questions, concerns and yes, even ‘jokes’ from your target?

If you can’t answer these questions for yourself, how would you expect to answer them from your prospect?

The beautiful part about this business marketing exercise is that, if you go through it with commitment, you will already know the answers to the prospect’s questions BEFORE they ask them - which quickly eliminates any fears you might have about talking with them.

4. Continue this simple exercise - every couple days for a week or so. Giving 15-20 minutes of serious thought to your business marketing plan and role playing every couple days will stimulate your conscious mind, as well as keep your unconscious mind actively thinking about it.

You’ll be surprised at the outcome of taking these steps seriously.

But be forewarned - you will very likely have a very different outlook about your prospect after one week of this simple, yet extremely effective business marketing, ‘target market’ finding tool!

You will know them as well as you know yourself, so you will be able to talk with them about things quickly, simply and with the best, consistent results of your business marketing efforts.

5. Now, take a look at your product/service and business marketing plan - through the prospect’s eyes (now that you can clearly see through them…)

Does it fit your prospect’s needs?

Does it answer their questions and eliminate their fears?

Is it priced right for your target prospect?

Is there a market for your product/service other than your personalized target market prospect? (This step is vital as a ‘reality check” - and one that many business marketing planners miss)

When you follow these five steps faithfully, you will have credibility, knowledge and successful long-term relationships with your customers (who used to be simply ‘target market prospects’ before you understood the power of this business marketing tip!).

When making your living in the sales industry, and working with people, it is important to not only get your point across verbally, but you want to allow for your body language to send a clear message as well.

Your body language consists of many key ingredients, but here are the five that are considered to be the most important, along with a description and a few tips to improve your skills.

1. Eye Contact

When you are speaking with a customer, or potential customer, look them in the eye, it will show that you are a confident person, and that you are confident in the product you are selling.

2. Hand Shake

When you shake someone’s hand, grasp it firmly, and give no less than three good pumps. This will once again give your customer the indication that you are a confident person, and that you are genuinely glad to meet them, or see them.

A limp hand shake, better known as the “dead fish” is a way of telling your customer that you are not interested, it is a major turn off!

3. Appearance is key, and many studies have confirmed this. People prefer to deal with sales people who present themselves well in appearance. The mind set of the customer is, if this person doesn’t take care of himself, how can I expect them to take care of me?

Would you buy a food product, or utensil off of a person with grimy fingernails? It sounds kind of harsh, but it is the truth.

4. Smiling

Smiling, the easiest thing to do in the world! Smiling is contagious, and it puts your customer at ease, and puts a nice upbeat inflection in your voice.

5. Good Posture

Good posture also shows the customer that you have confidence in yourself and the products that you sell. It also speaks volumes about your personality. Anything less, such as slouching, makes you look like a slacker, and will give your customer the indication that you don’t believe in your product, and that you would prefer to be somewhere else, and doing something else.

These are the five main ingredients to having good body language, and it isn’t very hard to master these skills. In fact you can practice on your friends and family without them even knowing it.

Once you master these skills, they will begin to come effortlessly, and before you know it, they will be second nature to you, and your sales will ultimately increase. Good Luck!

Advertising is everything some people say.

Regardless if you have a product, a service, a hobby website or just want to share pictures of your wedding, you have to advertise somehow to get the traffic to your site or blog.

But not all traffic is equal.

There are services that can help you drive tons and tons of traffic to your site and it won’t do you any good at all because it’s not targeted traffic.

Take for example all of the many different ’surf for traffic’ or ‘traffic clicking’ programs that are out there. If you have a website that is about your hobby, say model airplanes, then what good is this traffic really going to do you? Who’s using these services?

Webmasters and marketers that want traffic on their own site.

So they most likely won’t spend any more time on your page than is required by the little timer these services use and then they are gone again. Even if your site is about these traffic services (this is about the only time you will see very much benefit from using such a tool) you will still have to spend a ton of time just surfing and clicking around to get a real benefit from these programs.

Once marketers realized that they switched gears. They started promoting all the different programs to a lot of other marketers to get them in their downlines, so they could get some traffic as a bonus and that was their new focus. Problem is that that is exactly what everyone else did, so not a lot of people were surfing anymore.

Bottomline is, you want traffic, but you need targeted traffic, so here are some tips on how you can generate exactly the traffic you need and bring the visitors you want visiting your site to you instead of chasing after them.

1. Content

What is your website about? Do you just have a page with a lot of links and not much else?

If that’s the case, think about adding some content to your website that will be of value to any potential visitors. You could write articles or find articles at one of the many directories that you can reprint on your site.

2. Talk about your experiences with your subject matter.

You don’t have to put up some kind of resume (although that can work too), but rather try writing about what you are doing, as it relates to your topic of choice. Let’s look at the model airplanes again briefly, you could talk or write about the latest plane type you built, how the last time flying your plane went, what challenges you run into or perhaps even post some pictures of your plane or of you flying it.

3. Forums and Bulletin Boards.

You could add a forum or bulletin board to your website where your visitors can interact with each other. There are a lot of free services available out there that you can use to either remotely host a forum for you, or even software you can install on your website’s server. To find some of these, just head over to your favorite search engine and you will definitely find plenty to choose from.

And while you are visiting the search engine, why not run a search for any bulletin boards and forums that are already out there for your chosen topic? You could visit those and interact with the visitors there and since many allow you to post a signature or a profile, you could add a little line about your own site with a link (just check the rules of the forum first so you don’t violate any of them).

4. Start a blog.

Blogs are very popular and search engines love them because they provide constantly new and fresh content. Your blog would be a great place to talk about what you are up to that day.

So if you spent some time today buying new parts for your plane you could write about where you found them, how much they cost you, why you chose those parts, anything really goes.

The really great part about this is that you can point links from your blog back to your website, so when the search engine stops by to grab and index your latest content, it will also stop by your website and you will start seeing very targeted traffic heading your way.

5. Write articles.

Writing articles isn’t hard and can be a great source of fresh, new traffic to your website.

There are a lot of ezines on any topic out there and there are also a lot of directories just to share your articles at.

Basically what you do is to write an article and then add a small resource box that links back to your website (just like a signature) and then let other ezine publishers know that you are allowing them to print your article in their ezine. And many publishers go to the article directories to find new content for their newsletter and even their websites. And since there are websites and ezine newsletters on any imaginable topic out there, you can’t lose. Write an article every couple of days and post it in the directories (even one a week or every two weeks will start getting you traffic) and you will all of a sudden find new traffic coming from search engines, newsletters and websites.

Best of all, these 5 simple tips will bring targeted traffic, meaning the visitors are coming to you because they are interested in what you wrote about.

So there you have it, 5 easy and simple ways to advertise and drive traffic to your website at absolutely no cost at all.

Search engines are the vehicles that drive potential customers to your websites. But in order for visitors to reach their destination - your website - you need to provide them with specific and effective signs that will direct them right to your site. You do this by creating carefully chosen keywords.

Think of the right keywords as the Open Sesame! of the Internet. Find the exactly right words or phrases, and presto! hoards of traffic will be pulling up to your front door. But if your keywords are too general or too over-used, the possibility of visitors actually making it all the way to your site - or of seeing any real profits from the visitors that do arrive - decreases dramatically.

Your keywords serve as the foundation of your marketing strategy. If they are not chosen with great precision, no matter how aggressive your marketing campaign may be, the right people may never get the chance to find out about it. So your first step in plotting your strategy is to gather and evaluate keywords and phrases.

You probably think you already know EXACTLY the right words for your search phrases. Unfortunately, if you haven’t followed certain specific steps, you are probably WRONG. It’s hard to be objective when you are right in the center of your business network, which is the reason that you may not be able to choose the most efficient keywords from the inside. You need to be able to think like your customers. And since you are a business owner and not the consumer, your best bet is to go directly to the source.

Instead of plunging in and scribbling down a list of potential search words and phrases yourself, ask for words from as many potential customers as you can. You will most likely find out that your understanding of your business and your customers’ understanding is significantly different.

The consumer is an invaluable resource. You will find the words you accumulate from them are words and phrases you probably never would have considered from deep inside the trenches of your business.

Only after you have gathered as many words and phrases from outside resources should you add your own keyword to the list. Once you have this list in hand, you are ready for the next step: evaluation.

The aim of evaluation is to narrow down your list to a small number of words and phrases that will direct the highest number of quality visitors to your website. By “quality visitors” I mean those consumers who are most likely to make a purchase rather than just cruise around your site and take off for greener pastures. In evaluating the effectiveness of keywords, bear in mind three elements: popularity, specificity, and motivation.

Popularity is the easiest to evaluate because it is an objective quality. The more popular your keyword is, the more likely the chances are that it will be typed into a search engine which will then bring up your URL.

You can now purchase software that will rate the popularity of keywords and phrases by giving words a number rating based on real search engine activity. Software such as WordTracker will even suggest variations of your words and phrases. The higher the number this software assigns to a given keyword, the more traffic you can logically expect to be directed to your site. The only fallacy with this concept is the more popular the keyword is, the greater the search engine position you will need to obtain. If you are down at the bottom of the search results, the consumer will probably never scroll down to find you.

Popularity isn’t enough to declare a keyword a good choice. You must move on to the next criteria, which is specificity. The more specific your keyword is, the greater the likelihood that the consumer who is ready to purchase your goods or services will find you.

Let’s look at a hypothetical example. Imagine that you have obtained popularity rankings for the keyword “automobile companies.” However, you company specializes in bodywork only. The keyword “automobile body shops” would rank lower on the popularity scale than “automobile companies,” but it would nevertheless serve you much better. Instead of getting a slew of people interested in everything from buying a car to changing their oil filters, you will get only those consumers with trashed front ends or crumpled fenders being directed to your site. In other words, consumers ready to buy your services are the ones who will immediately find you. Not only that, but the greater the specificity of your keyword is, the less competition you will face.

The third factor is consumer motivation. Once again, this requires putting yourself inside the mind of the customer rather than the seller to figure out what motivation prompts a person looking for a service or product to type in a particular word or phrase. Let’s look at another example, such as a consumer who is searching for a job as an IT manager in a new city. If you have to choose between “Seattle job listings” and “Seattle IT recruiters” which do you think will benefit the consumer more? If you were looking for this type of specific job, which keyword would you type in? The second one, of course! Using the second keyword targets people who have decided on their career, have the necessary experience, and are ready to enlist you as their recruiter, rather than someone just out of school who is casually trying to figure out what to do with his or her life in between beer parties. You want to find people who are ready to act or make a purchase, and this requires subtle tinkering of your keywords until your find the most specific and directly targeted phrases to bring the most motivated traffic to you site.

Once you have chosen your keywords, your work is not done. You must continually evaluate performance across a variety of search engines, bearing in mind that times and trends change, as does popular lingo. You cannot rely on your log traffic analysis alone because it will not tell you how many of your visitors actually made a purchase.

Luckily, some new tools have been invented to help you judge the effectiveness of your keywords in individual search engines. There is now software available that analyzes consumer behavior in relation to consumer traffic. This allows you to discern which keywords are bringing you the most valuable customers.

This is an essential concept: numbers alone do not make a good keyword; profits per visitor do. You need to find keywords that direct consumers to your site who actually buy your product, fill out your forms, or download your product. This is the most important factor in evaluating the efficacy of a keyword or phrase, and should be the sword you wield when discarding and replacing ineffective or inefficient keywords with keywords that bring in better profits.

Ongoing analysis of tested keywords is the formula for search engine success. This may sound like a lot of work - and it is! But the amount of informed effort you put into your keyword campaign is what will ultimately generate your business’ rewards.

Network marketing has quickly become one of the fastest growing ways to work at home. Sometimes called Multi Level Marketing or Affiliate Marketing, Network marketing is based around the concept of recruiting. You join a program that utilizes network marketing to sell a product, and you make money by recruiting new sellers who have purchased their products from you and are now selling their own. You may get a cut of their sales and their recruits’ sales and so on for many levels. The possibilities are endless, and so is the income potential. So it sounds all gravy right? All you have to do is get your business up and running by joining the program of your choice and recruiting new prospects.

It sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? It sure did for me, and I cannot describe how excited I was about finally being able to do something about my job that I hated and the long, miserable days that I spent there. I was so ready and eager to go out there and be successful with my new network marketing business. I had all the resources I needed at my fingertips through my program, and all I had to do was turn the key.

Once I did a little research, I saw that there were lots of other people recruiting and advertising their opportunity. No sweat, it just shows how many people were having success with this concept, and it was time to get in on my slice of the pie! I mean, if people were not successful with it, then why would they be advertising it? I’ll admit, it started out a little slow. Well, very slow. I found myself doing everything I could within time and budget restraints to promote my program, but I was generating no results from my efforts. Day after day I would check my email, vigorously hoping to be greeted by an email from my program telling me I had signed up a new recruit. Every day I would have a little less excitement while opening my inbox, and a little more lost hope when I saw no email containing the good news I had anticipated. Weeks turned into months of unsuccessful promoting. I finally gave up, threw in the towel, and turned to face the miserable reality of a job I hated with no escape.

My name is Joe Borowy and this is the story of how I failed with Network Marketing. I’m sure its the same story many of you reading this would write about your experience with Network Marketing. The truth is 95% of Network Marketing Businesses fail. All too often, a story of one’s failure looks no different from my own. It can depressing when you think about how much hope and drive you had to be successful, all to see it slowly fade away.

After my Network Marketing Business failed, I continued to do research on the concept of Network Marketing and I was determined to figure out how the 5% who do succeed with Network Marketing go about doing it. I had to sift and search through many bogus methods, useless “secrets,” and sales pitches that targeted Network Marketing failures like me. Many websites out there try to target people who have failed with Network Marketing, promising new ways to make money from it and new methods to drive success. As you probably know, there are also many websites who target Network Marketing novices, and create false hope and promise. These are what I call “Vegas Airport Slot Businesses.” For anyone who has been to Las Vegas, you know that the airport is famous for having hundreds of slot machines for you to play right after you get off the plane. The airport makes shocking amounts of money from these slots. They have horrible odds, but most of the people who play them don’t know that. What is their goal? They want your gambling money to be spent as soon as you get off the plane. Most people are dying to play the slots for the whole duration of the plane trip. As soon as they get off the plane, the slots are right there waiting for them. You would be surprised on how much people blow on these things. After they’ve had enough, the people go about their vacations, have a good time, and most likely lose a good chunk of money. After a few days, they are ready to cut their losses, and get on a plane to head home. They are disappointed because they didn’t hit any jackpots. They have a few dollars left, and they recognize the airport slots as their last chance to hit the big one. They sit down with a revitalizing hope of going home on with more then they came with. Soon enough, they have nothing left, and are disappointed once again.

So what do these slots have to do with Network Marketing? They are built on the same principles. The Las Vegas airport slots are designed to crop you up with hope and excitement for the opportunity to gain wealth, and take your last dollars after you lose. The sad reality is most of the network marketing programs you will come across are designed one of these two ways. They either want your first and foremost dollars, or your last, desperate dollars. Remember, the executives and founders of these programs know very well that 95% who enroll will fail. Its just the sad truth.

So…Is there any realistic hope of being successful with network marketing?

I am very glad to say yes, there is. I am not going to try to pitch a sale to you here, but I have found several factors that are essential for any success with network marketing. Some are more obvious than others, and some of the obvious ones are much more important than you might expect.

Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Relationships- This is probably the most important factor of developing a successful Network Marketing Business. When trying to find new people to enroll in your opportunities, you have to prove to them you are trustworthy and that you want them to be successful. The best way to do this is by working to make your network successful, rather than using them to make yourself successful. It not only will make your more money in the long run, but you will enjoy doing it. It will develop a “family” atmosphere of sort between you and your network. It will truly feel like the perfect job, because all of your colleagues are happy, and you all help each other. This is the x-factor of success with networking. Even if you were to do everything else right, your business would slowly fade away if you had no relationship with your enrollees.

2. Communication- This one is very obvious, but often is missing link for many up and coming Network Marketers. Most programs utilize some kind of autoresponse system for its enrollees. Too many Network Marketers label this as their communication with their prospects. To truly develop the relationships you need to be successful in the long run with Network Marketing, first hand communication is a must. Live calls and personal calls can be good, but many people, like myself, don’t like phone interaction for Network Marketing. I feel that calling prospects about opportunities, or calling new enrollees to motivate them to push forward with their business could easily put someone in a situation where they are back into a corner and do something they don’t really want to do. That’s why I prefer email as the main communication source for my network. It allows friendly communication, encouragement, advice, and motivation without putting anyone on the spot. More enrollees does not necessarily mean a better overall network.

3. A Realistic Opportunity- The Internet has become over saturated with hundreds of network marketing programs, all of which claim to be the best. It is important only to promote programs with realistic opportunity in the long run. Look for a reputation, a good amount of included resources, or even in some cases, a new program in prelaunch that offers you an upgraded membership at no cost. Be careful though, there are thousands of great salesmen on the Internet, and it is very easy to be deceived. I have tested dozens of programs, and yet, only offer several opportunities to my website readers and mailing list. I wouldn’t want to waste their time offering them a program that probably would not work for me. If you are looking for a realistic opportunity, browse my website listed in the resource box and see if you like any of the opportunities I promote. I try to include something for everyone.

4. Mailing Lists- Not only developing your own, but signing up for others on the Internet that have good resources and tips. By getting people to sign up for your own mailing lists, it allows you to communicate with them and share with them new opportunities, as well as feed the new relationships you are developing. It is very important to sign up for other mailing lists, as they often are the best sources for fresh, new opportunities. Pass these on to your own email list, and your list will do the same for their own lists.

5. A Goal, a Drive, and a Reason Why- Any successful entrepreneur will tell you that in order to be successful, you have to want to be successful and have a reason why you want to obtain success. I’m not just talking about wanting to get rich and live the easy life. You need to have a personal drive of why you want to achieve success and what you plan to do with it once you have achieved it. Wanting to get away from your current job probably won’t be enough. For me, it has always been wanting to enjoy the finer aspects of every day life, and not having to worry about little things, like finances. For most people, money is anything but a little thing. I always wanted to be successful not so that I could be rich, but so that I wouldn’t have to worry about money. I believe worry is an unneccesary part of life, and I always hated having to worry about money. Money is the root of all evil, and even if you have a lot of it, it doesn’t benefit your life quality unless you have some higher goal in mind of why you want it. If you don’t have any reason for being involved with Network Marketing other than wanting some extra money to spoil yourself with, then this business probably isn’t for you. The people who succeed in Network Marketing love what they do, and have a drive inside that fuels them to keep going.

The bottom line is this: To be successful with Network Marketing, you have to enjoy doing it, and help others enjoy it by working for their success. It is better to have a team of 10 hard working, highly driven enrollees who love doing what they do than to have 100 paid members in your downline who you never hear from. They wont last, and the chances are that only 5 of them will be successful. Network Marketing is not for everyone, and there is no shame in acknowledging that it is not for you at this point in life. Perhaps later in life, you will have a good reason why you want to succeed with Network Marketing, and you will be ready for it. You don’t want to get into this business if you won’t enjoy it. I promise you that.

If you are considering getting into the Network Marketing business, do yourself a favor and define for yourself A Goal, a Drive, and a Reason Why.

Last week I got a call from Jose, who was looking for help improving his ads. He’d been running the same ad in four local papers for two months and only gotten one response. He was understandably frustrated. With more than a dozen very satisfied clients, he knows that the residential property management services he and his brother provide should interest more people, but he wasn’t having any success getting attention or generating leads.

Jose knew that to grow his business he’d need to do some marketing. He had a web site and was doing all the networking he could in addition to running his ads. Isn’t this what he should be doing to attract more clients? Aren’t advertising, web sites, mailings and networking what marketing is all about?

Webster’s dictionary thinks so; it defines marketing as an aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer. In other words, marketing is a collection of activities. Is this how you think of it? Has approaching marketing with this mindset helped you increase your sales and pr0fits?

Think about it. You started your business to provide products or services that help people. You work long and hard for your clients to ensure they get what they want. You know that the more helpful you are to your clients, the more likely they’ll be to hire you again and the more often they’ll recommend you.

Your products and services are focused around your prospects’ wants and needs. Focus your marketing on these wants and needs and that will guide your marketing activities.

Marketing is Helping Your Prospects Get What They Want.

Marketing is not about you. It is not building your brand name, (unless you’re a Fortune 500 company and have the advertising budget to match). It is not convincing people to buy your products and services. It is not a group of activities that move goods and services. It is about your customers and what they want.

Working with Jose, I had shown him how to refocus his marketing on what his prospects were looking for. A few days ago Jose called me back to tell me about his experience with trying out this helping model of marketing. During a recent visit to Home Depot, he struck up a conversation with a prospect, Bob, who asked what Jose did. Instead of going through the litany of services his company provides, Jose said, ‘We help landlords manage their properties more efficiently and make more money.’

That got Bob’s attention; he wanted to know how Jose helped landlords. Jose briefly explained his company’s services from the landlord’s point of view. Bob asked for Jose’s business card, so they could have a conversation about Jose managing Bob’s 56 rental properties.

Whether you are crafting your advertising copy, elevator speech, or the copy for your web or print brochure, it should focus on what your prospects want. When your prospects see you as helping them instead of just trying to sell them, they’ll be more likely to respond.

Want to help your prospects get what they want so you can increase your sales and profits? Focus your marketing on helping by doing the following three things.

* Regularly ask your prospects what they want, what their goals are and how you can help them.

* Use this information to shape your marketing copy.

* Describe in brief and in detail your clients concerns and how you help them on everything from your business card to your sales letters to your ads and to your web site.

When you focus your marketing on helping your prospects get what they want, you’ll get what you want; more leads, more prospects and more clients.

How many years did you register your domain name for?
If it was only one then Google could hold that against you.

The term business marketing strategy might sound like it is esoteric or stratospheric, so let’s take the mystery out of it so you can devise and implement your own business marketing strategy that fits in to your small business plan.

Strategy comes from a Greek word “stratagein” meaning “to be a general”. Think of a strategy as an overall plan of action needed to win a war. The smaller, detailed actions are called tactics. You can have tactical plans which help you achieve your strategic marketing plan or overall business marketing strategy. That’s simple enough, isn’t it?

A business marketing strategy or strategic marketing plan is an overall plan of marketing actions you intend to take in order to accomplish a specific goal for your company.

Start with a goal: $2 million in sales this year; expand into new premises by a certain date; double the size of the company in 2 years… whatever the goal may be. Something realistic but challenging. That’s the “war” you want to win. Guess who the general is.

Then work out a simple, overall plan of the major marketing steps needed to accomplish that (for example):

Publish a newsletter for all existing customers and mail out quarterly.

Work out 4 special offers in the year and promote them to all our customers.

Set up on-line shopping and expand the web site.

Direct mail campaign promoting the web site to all customers.

Get mailing lists of (target markets) and do a series of 3 mailings of postcards to them and follow up on and close all leads.

Etc.

You get the idea. Don’t rush this. Do your homework. What worked in the past? Read up on successful marketing campaigns.

Your business marketing strategy needs to be laid out in the right sequence and you should have some idea of budget when you write it. “Run a series of 30 second TV ads during the Superbowl” might sound like a good thing to do but can you afford it? On the other hand, when you build your business marketing strategy you mustn’t try and cut corners. If you don’t promote heavily, it doesn’t matter how good your product or service is, no one will know about it and you will go broke.

What really works when it comes to marketing?

Many business owners don’t have a good enough answer to this important question. I learned by a combination of study and trial and error.

From my own hard won experienceI have discovered that a real marketing campaign will take into consideration at least the seven points which are outlined below:

1. Target Your Market

Your marketing will produce the best results for the lowest cost when you target prospects with the greatest need for what you offer.

Identify the best people to send your postcards to. Design your postcards to appeal to their greatest need.

If you are able to break down your target market into sub markets you can then write postcards that specifically speak to the needs of those people (an example is breaking down your own customer list into customers who buy most often, customers who spend the most money with you, customers who have been your customers the longest and then making them special offers based on the category they fit into).

2. Create A USP For Your Business

USP stands for “Unique Selling Proposition”.

It is a statement of what is different about your company and its products. Your USP gives the reason people should do business with you. It amplifies the benefit of doing business with you and your company. My USP is POSTCARD MARKETING EXPERTS.

Create your own USP and put it on all your promotional materials, invoices, shipping labels etc.

Use your USP to communicate the benefit of doing business with you and why you are better than any of your competitors.

3. Always Make an Offer

Make sure you ask your prospects and customers to do something when they receive your postcard. By offering them something you know they are likely to want and giving them a smooth path to respond on, you are making it easy and desirable for them to respond.

4. Create and Maintain a Database of The Customer Information You Collect From The Responses To Your Mailings

Most people who receive a postcard from you won’t contact you the first time they receive one.

But once they contact you, you must create and maintain a database which allows you to repeatedly contact them with offers to respond to.

Fifty percent or more of many businesses’ sales come as a result of following up with people who were previously contacted, but didn’t buy right away.

No kidding, repeat contact does drive sales. One-time mailings can get response, but are bound to leave sales on the table. Those sales can be picked up with repeated mailings.

5. Take Away the Fear of Loss

People don’t want to be fooled, plain and simple. Unfortunately trust does not run high today between customers and businesses in general. People have been disappointed too many times by being sold one thing and getting another.

A guarantee or warranty is a good way to reduce or eliminate the customers’ risk of getting something other than what they bargained for.

Guarantees and warranties increase response and sales by reducing customer risk.

6. Expand Your Product Line

Getting new customers is more expensive than selling to existing ones. By regularly developing new products and services to sell to your customers and offering these new products and services to them, you can expand your business efficiently and easily.

7. Test Your Postcard Promotions

Track the effectiveness of your postcard mailings. How many people responded to your mailing? What dollar amount of sales resulted from those responses?

Is the money you are spending to attract new business giving you a good return? What can you do to make your marketing more effective? Change your offer, headline, price, the timing of your offer. When you do track the results and improve your response.

These are the points to follow when designing your own marketing strategy. When you are done, you will have laid out the steps needed to accomplish your goal using existing resources to achieve a great marketing ROI (return on investment).

After that, you simply have to get those steps executed and that might require further planning but it is all in the context of your main business marketing strategy.

Do you ever wonder if you could be doing a better job marketing your small business or professional service firm? Successfully marketing a small business is hard work. There are several key skills required to consistently develop new business that you, as a small business owner, must master in order to succeed.

The first skill you need to have is the ability to regularly generate qualified leads. You must consistently build your list of prospects if you are to grow your business. Your business will not grow if you market to the same, stagnant population over and over again. While there will be a certain percentage of people who choose to buy from you after repeated contact with your marketing material, the amount who buy will always be limited by the size of the list to which you market.

How often do you add to your list of qualified prospects?

Here are five steps you can take to improve your prospect building skills.

Focus On Client Needs

Whether you print a brochure, advertise in industry periodicals or use search engines to generate traffic to your web site the first thing your marketing materials must do is get noticed. One of the best ways to have your future clients notice you is to use words in your marketing materials that focus on their needs. By using such words your clients will immediately associate your ad with their problem or unmet need.

For example, if you are a patent attorney your ads will have a much better chance of being noticed and acted upon by those who need your service if you use the words, “Get paid for your invention” instead of “Patent Attorney”. Getting paid is what an inventor wants. You may be proud of your status as an attorney but your clients are interested in the results you provide that solve their problem.

Be sure you use words in your marketing material that focus on your clients’ needs. They will get noticed more often.

Eliminate Waste

Another step you can take to improve your ability to generate leads is to eliminate unproductive marketing methods. Marketing takes time, money and effort. If your tactics are not generating the results you want stop using them and try something new. Of course, in order to separate the good tactics from the bad you need to measure the effect of individual marketing efforts.

Perhaps you run the same ad in two different newspapers. If you don’t know that the ad in “paper number two” is generating 95% of your prospects you will never know that it would be a smart move to reallocate the money you spend in “paper number one”.

What steps can you take to measure the effect of individual marketing tactics?

Once you know which tactics are lead generators and which are not you can improve your ability to generate new leads simply by reallocating the resources from unproductive tactics to ones you know work.

Use Your Web Site Properly

Another way to maximize your ability to generate leads is to use your web site properly. The purpose of your web site is to generate leads. To maximize the number of leads your web site generates make sure your site has information your prospects want, is easy to navigate and maximizes the opportunity for your prospects to get in touch with you, either by calling you or by providing you with their contact information.

Clearly let your visitors know you’re there for them and they will be much more likely to reach out and get in touch, especially if your site’s content demonstrates that you understand and can solve their problems.

Cross Marketing

Cross marketing is the process of establishing marketing relationships with companies whose product or service complements what you sell. For example, a company that helps web site owners track the traffic to and through their site would do well to develop relationships with web hosting companies. There is a natural symbiosis here – anyone who has a new web site needs to (or should) measure their site’s traffic so they can make well-informed decisions to guide the evolution of their site and any web hosting company wants their clients’ business to succeed so they can keep them as a customer. Companies don’t need web sites if they’re out of business. It therefore makes sense for web hosting companies to promote web statistics companies and vice versa as each can benefit from the other’s service.

What cross marketing tactics do you use to promote your business?

Ask Questions

Regardless of your favorite marketing mechanism the goal is the same: to generate interest in your products or services. Whether you use a web site, a brochure or newspaper ads to generate leads the first thing you must do is get your future prospects thinking about the problem that you solve and they have. A great method for invoking this type of thought is to use questions in your marketing materials.

If you are a dentist, questions like, “Do you have tooth pain?” or “Are your teeth sensitive to heat or cold?” will do a much better job of drawing in your prospects that marketing materials that say, “Do you need a dentist?”

What questions can you ask to get your prospects thinking about the problems that they have that you solve?

Move Your Marketing Forward

Take some time to examine your marketing efforts with respect to the notions outlined in this article. Is there room for you to improve your ability to generate leads? Most likely, there is.

You hear a lot about breakthroughs; is it all hype, or can you really create a breakthrough in your marketing and sales? I know that you can.

I spent last weekend skiing in Vermont with my spouse, nephew and his finance Sonia. We were all having a great time on the slopes, except Sonia. Sonia doesn’t have as much experience as the rest of us and was struggling to keep up. Her problem wasn’t one of effort. She was working much harder than the rest of us, fighting each turn and slowing her progress down the hill. In a few minutes, I showed her how to tip her skis to make easy, graceful S shaped turns that took advantage of the new shaped skis. After making a run or two, she was skiing twice as fast with less effort, and having more fun.

You too can experience a breakthrough in your skiing, golf swing or in your marketing. If you are like most business owners, you advertise, send out mailings, make sales calls and have a web site. This is what you do to market your business; the way you do these things will make the difference between success and failure.

What would constitute a breakthrough in your business? Like Sonia, you may be inadvertently working harder than you need to be to get the results you want. With a few changes to your marketing strategy and techniques you could be getting a lot more attention, generating more qualified leads and converting more prospects to clients and having more fun.

Here are five ideas to get your marketing headed for a breakthrough:

Focus on your target markets’ primary concerns in your sales calls, your brochure, your ads and on your web pages. Your prospects’ problems and wants brought you together; use this to keep prospects’ attention.

Use questions to get the conversation going. Whether you’re on the telephone, writing web page copy or writing an ad, ask your prospects questions to get them thinking about what they want and how you can help them.

Give something away that your prospects need. The more helpful information you give away to prospects, the more business you’ll receive in return. Give away ideas they can use and help them understand when and how to use your products and services.

Build a mailing list of people who want more of your ideas and information. Use the list regularly to stay in touch and you’ll increase your credibility the perceived value of your goods and services, and your sales.

Other Breakthrough Ideas

When people are at the point of purchase, prompt them to buy additional products and you can double your revenue.

Call people who have bought your products after a couple of weeks to get feedback. There is a good chance they’ll be interested in buying additional products or services.

Whether you want to become an expert at marketing, skiing or cooking, the key is to let go of methods that aren’t working for you, and learn and apply the techniques used by the experts. Nine times out of ten, the problem is in getting the basics right. You can achieve a breakthrough in sales when you understand and apply these proven marketing principles and techniques.

I’ve outlined 5 ways to reach your target. But, please keep in mind that these are not the only ways that you can do to increase your traffic. There are hundreds of techniques to increase traffic. But these one are the proven one. I’ve used it personally. More importantly, these techniques can get you FREE traffic. You’re money is saved in your pocket. Let’s go to the first one.

Technique #1: Linking strategy

Linking strategy is the easiest way to get free traffic. When I say “the easiest way” it does not mean that you can ask everybody to link to your site and do nothing after that. Compared to other techniques that you’ll discover, this one will take less time to do.

Here’s how to do it. First select the site in your niche market. Be selective. Choose one that has a high traffic. Usually a high traffic site is pretty stingy to put link to your site. So, the key here is to be persistent. Ask them how many visitors do they received per month and if they could link to your site. If they don’t answer your request, email them the second time.

Be persistent. If they don’t want to link to your site, ask them to trade link instead (reciprocal link). This is the last resort you want to have.

Word of warning: Don’t crowd your site with too many links. Only accept link trading if it’s really worth it.

Technique #2: Offer Free eBooks or articles

You’ll fall in love with this technique if you see what it can do to your site. This technique can create an excellent’Viral marketing’ effect. It can multiply the no of visitors to your site in a matter of days.

This most important thing about this technique is that to offer something that is really useful to your visitor. So useful that they can only get that information from you!

You need to the ‘wants’ in your need market. What problems do they encounter? Solve these problems and you have a killer articles or e-book that you can give away for free. Remember, don’t sell it. Give it away for free. If you feel really reluctant to give your article or e-book for free, you can give your visitors a partial of it. But, make sure it’s really useful. Don’t forget to put your name and your contact information in this article or e-book. Usually, if you write an article, you need to include your resource box at the very bottom of your article.

The most important task in this technique is to offer a reprint right to your visitors. What this mean is that your visitors can publish your articles or e-book to anyone in any medium; email, Ezine, website or anything. But please state your condition: Include your contact information or resource box. This will create viral effect to your visitors.

Before I forgot, there is one particular e-book compiler that is good in doing this kind of task. The name of this e-book compiler is ‘E-book Edit Pro’. With this compiler, you can offer your visitors a customizable e-book. This is a great incentive for them to distribute your article or e-book since they can put their name and information in it. If you like to know more about the excellent compiler, please visit:

Technique #3: Classified Ad

This is the most time consuming technique compared to all 5. While it is time consuming, it is really worth it.

Tips - This technique should be used together with the above technique. Let me explain:

First, you need to write an e-book or article that you can give it away for free. Then, you need have an autoresponder. If you don’t have an autoresponder (your
